The NSW fire brigade responded to a fire in a goods lift contained within the Woolworths building on the corner of George and Park St in Sydney's CBD.

Upon arrival, large volumes of smoke were present on floors 3 and above. A 2nd alarm response was declared and backup soon arrived. The fire was knocked down with the Internal hose reels and carbon dioxide extinguishers.

Police shutdown all traffic around the Park St area. Fire crews evacuated around 100 people. There were no injuries.

A swift response from the NSW fire brigade managed to contain the fire to its origin. Woolworths was re-opened once the smoke was cleared from the building.

The cause of the blaze is undetermined at this time.
