A resident in Caringbah St, Caringbah was alerted to power fluctuations in their home. When they went to investigate the cause, they noticed a possum entangled in their electrical wiring.

They contacted the NSW Fire Brigade for assistance and the Cronulla Rescue Unit responded.

Upon investigating the position of the possum, further assistance was required from Energy Australia to cut power to the home. After it was declared safe, the Fire Brigade moved in to capture the furry animal, but it decided it had better options.

The fur ball scurried across the roof in a wounded condition. It had suffered serious electrical burns during the entanglement.

The Fire crews did not give up the search and formed a perimeter around the house. Eventually it was discovered cowering away near the basement.

After much hard work, it was finally caught and placed carefully into a box.

Wires was contacted, however they could not respond immediately. The possum was taken back to Cronulla Fire Station where it will be cared for until specialist assistance can be provided.

The residents thanked the fire service for their dedication to animal preservation and for assisting in such a delicate, but small rescue operation.
