A 36 year old woman and 37 year old male have been charged after an elderly brother and sister were allegedly assaulted whilst travelling on a bus in Kingsford overnight.

Around 7.30pm a 59-year-old man and his 61-year-old sister entered a bus at Bondi Junction.

Another man and woman who were also siblings, boarded the East Gardens bus near Bronte.

It is alleged the 36-year-old woman became aggressive whilst travelling on the 400 route and was approached by a number of passengers to calm down. During the incident it was reported that the younger female assaulted the 59 year-old male. His sister assisted in protecting her brother, however was also assaulted in the altercation.

The driver of the bus urgently called for police assistance by activating his onboard alarm. Patrols from Eastern Beaches Local Area Command attended Anzac Parade in Kingsford.

The injured passengers sustained bruising and swelling to their faces and were treated at the scene by paramedics.

A short time later Police located and arrested the alleged offenders a short distance away. They were taken to Maroubra Police Station for questioning and will be due to appear in court on a number of charges.
