A NSW Police officer has been injured during a foot pursuit through the streets of Clovelly.

The officer sustained cuts to his hands and leg during the capture in Arden St at around 8.45pm.

The local patrol from the eastern beaches command noticed two suspicious males with a laptop and other items dumped nearby. After questioning the males, it's alleged one decided to evade the officers. A foot pursuit was initiated and the male was caught and arrested.

Two males were taken into custody and were transported to Maroubra Police station. Ambulance officers were called and treated the officer for his injuries.

The capture was made possible by high visibility patrols that operate the area. The injured policeman was praised by his fellow officers for a dramatic but successful capture.

His injuries did not appear to be serious, however it's unlikely he will return to full general duties patrol until the wounds have healed.
