Fire crews & supporting emergency services were contacted by numerous residents at around midnight after an explosion ripped a restaurant apart in Surry Hills.

The structure exploded after an apparent arson attack.

Residents were woken by the large blast and two occupants residing next door were rescued by an unknown good Samaritan with a ladder.

The first attending fire crew from Redfern declared a "2nd alarm" which signified a moderate blaze requiring further urgent assistance.

Police closed off Cleveland Street to all traffic and declared the area a crime scene.

Two men were seen running from the scene and detectives are urging any witnesses to come forward.

Police Do Something Fast!

What's the police doing in Australia? Someone's lost a restaurant and business, and all they're doing is talking to dumb people who've not seen anything other than hearing an explosion. This is definitely a case of hate-crime, why only the Indian restaurant and not any other restaurant? Is it because its a Lebanese-dominated area of Sydney? If there were two men seen running away, why didn't the police catch them? This isn't done, law and order is going down the drain, along with the loss of international students and billions of dollars.
