Fire has destroyed one third of a home in Bellevue Hill overnight. At 10:05pm neighbours noticed smoke coming from a home in Balfour Rd, they contacted emergency services and rushed to assist the resident inside.

Fire crews on scene confirmed that the smoke alarms were operating, however the elderly resident asleep inside did not hear them.

The 80 year old male was woken by the good willed neighbours and rescued to a nearby property. Fire crews called for additional assistance to control the blaze.

The Ambulance treated the male on scene for minor smoke inhalation and is understood to be in satisfactory condition.

Electricity has been cut off to the house and the cause of the blaze is being investigated.
