![]() READ MORE TO VIEW GALLERY & VIDEO Police are investigating a fatal accident where an STA bus and white hatchback collided. The accident occurred at 6.45pm on Maroubra Rd, Maroubra. A male aged in his·late thirties·was trapped inside his overturned vehicle and passed away on scene. The driver of the bus was also trapped for over an hour, whilst specialist rescue crews took the front and side sections of the bus apart with hydraulic shears. The driver was transported to St Vincent’s hospital in a serious but stable condition. He suffered major trauma to his pelvic and lower limbs. Two male passengers travelling on the bus were also transported to hospital with head injuries. Another female passenger was treated on scene for shock and minor injuries. The road is expected to be closed through the night whilst crash investigation takes place. Police are appealing for witnesses to contact the Eastern Beaches Police with any information that may assist their investigation.

Thank you for your comments Maria. The Rescue workers (Police & Ambulance) are always amazing to watch in action. They regularly monitor this website and I’m certain they will appreciate your heartfelt thanks. Dave, although your wife did find it distressing, many children were watching under the careful guidance of their parents. If any good can come from this incident, it will be a number of very young drivers who are a lot more careful on the road.

I was there with my family and was amazed watching how many rescue people were working taking that bus apart. It was like watching a guard of honour. My wife was a little distressed over the whole thing, but I thought it was fascinating. Maria, I wish your father a speedy recovery and also my give heartfelt condolences to the family of the young man who died.

From our family we are ever so grateful to everyone who helped set our dad free from the wreckage. If we could we would like to thank everyone personally for their help.
