At some time between Saturday 7th August and Tuesday 10th August a total of 18 artworks worth more than $1.5 million dollars were stolen from a property in New Beach Road in Darling Point.

Various artworks include paintings and sketches by Pro Hart, David Boyd, John Perceval, Arthur Streeton and Norman Lindsay.

Detectives from Rose Bay Police could not comment on whether the artworks were being offered for sale on the international markets.

The artworks were displayed throughout several rooms within the residence.

Police state two 81cm televisions and telephones were taken from the premises and believe that at least two people would have been involved in the theft.

Detective Inspector Maricic is appealing to the art community to be observant and report any suspicious activity.

Anyone with information that can assist police should contact Rose Bay detectives via Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

Cynical Observation
written by Annie, at 11:26:57 pm EST on 13 August 2010
Perhaps a little cynical, but my immediate reaction is - are there any separation or divorce issues occuring in this family? It's not unknown for lapsed insurance valuables to disappear in such circumstances. Then who would house such wealth without ongoing back-to-base alarms or high level security in force?
