Investigations are underway after a serious industrial accident in Matraville late Wednesday evening.

At around 7.40pm, emergency services attended to reports of a 75 tonne forklift that had overturned.

It’s believed two shipping containers containing ceramic pipes were dropped into a nearby creek when the massive forklift toppled.

The driver of the machine, a 55–year-old man, was thrown from the cabin, however he was able to escape with his life. He is being assessed in hospital and is believed to be in a stable condition.

By 1.00am, a number of containers had been shifted to get access to the wreck, however additional specialist cranes will be needed to extract the forklift from the creek.
