A 28 year-old female has died after drowning in Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs this afternoon.

It's understood she was taking part in a diving course when she was reported missing by other divers. She was rescued from the harbour and found to be unconscious.

Paramedics supported by the NSW Police worked diligently in an attempt to save her life.

An ambulance spokeswoman stated that “she experienced some type of emergency”.

The cause of her death is considered a mystery and medical factors are a possibility.

Police will examine the scuba diving equipment used by the young woman.

Police are investigating the cause of the death and the case has been referred to the Coroner.

The young female was an overseas visitor to Australia.
