![]() READ MORE TO VIEW GALLERY Over 30 years has passed since the death of a paramedic serving on duty. On Christmas eve 2011, Mick Wilson and his team were called to rescue a patient at Carrington Falls near the Kangaroo Valley. Mick was part of a special breed of Paramedics working for the team formally known as “SCAT”, an abbreviated name for (Special Casualty Access Team). Formed back in 1986, this team was assembled to provide specialist medical support to victims in very dangerous and remote areas. Skills of the SCAT team involve: remote survival, bushcraft, advanced roping, caving, canyoning, mountaineering, mines rescue, chemical biological and radiological procedures, advanced 4WD, navigation and white water survival. On a daily basis, we watch and record the brave actions of these true life heroes, however, today is a sombre event covering the funeral for a fallen Paramedic. There is no doubt that Mick spent his life doing what he loved. However, on that fateful evening, he paid the ultimate price for helping yet another stranger. Mick Wilson is survived by his wife and three children. The funeral service will be held at St James Anglican Church. A guard of honour will held on Phillip St, in the Sydney CBD at 9.30am ADDITONAL STORY, PHOTOS & VIDEO NOW ONLINE http://www.freenews.com.au/eastern-suburbs/215-funeral-service-for-paramedic-mick-wilson-concluded-with-over-a-thousand-attendees A family appeal has been set up to support the family.
