Fire Brigade rescue possum from Caringbah Home

A resident in Caringbah St, Caringbah was alerted to power fluctuations in their home. When they went to investigate the cause, they noticed a possum entangled in their electrical wiring.

They contacted the NSW Fire Brigade for assistance and the Cronulla Rescue Unit responded.

Upon investigating the position of the possum, further assistance was required from Energy Australia to cut power to the home. After it was declared safe, the Fire Brigade moved in to capture the furry animal, but it decided it had better options.

Newtown Police risk their lives to save woman from house fire

Seven police have been treated in hospital after putting their lives on the line to rescue a woman from a burning house.

Police attended a residence in Susan St, Newtown shortly after 11.00pm. On arrival they found a terrace style home totally involved in flames.

Frantic efforts were made to gain access to the woman inside. Police smashed down the front door and a Sergeant located a nearby ladder and forced entry to the upper floor. Fighting back the flames and thick smoke the officers managed to locate the woman and drag her to safety.

The NSW fire brigade responded to a fire in a goods lift contained within the Woolworths building on the corner of George and Park St in Sydney's CBD.

Upon arrival, large volumes of smoke were present on floors 3 and above. A 2nd alarm response was declared and backup soon arrived. The fire was knocked down with the Internal hose reels and carbon dioxide extinguishers.

Police shutdown all traffic around the Park St area. Fire crews evacuated around 100 people. There were no injuries.
