Fire has destroyed one third of a home in Bellevue Hill overnight. At 10:05pm neighbours noticed smoke coming from a home in Balfour Rd, they contacted emergency services and rushed to assist the resident inside.

Fire crews on scene confirmed that the smoke alarms were operating, however the elderly resident asleep inside did not hear them.

The 80 year old male was woken by the good willed neighbours and rescued to a nearby property. Fire crews called for additional assistance to control the blaze.

Severe winds and storms sweep across Sydney

Emergency services have been inundated with calls for assistance as a strong southerly moved across Sydney overnight.

The severe winds approached at around 1.30am and are expected to continue throughout today.

The NSW Fire Brigade has responded to hundreds of calls for assistance with power lines down, motor vehicle accidents, trees across roads as well as threats of a scaffolding collapse at a building site in the CBD.

The Bureau of Meteorology issued a Gale warning for most parts of the NSW coast with wind speeds recorded in excess of 70km/h with gusts up to 90km/h.

Crane crashes into house in Gladesville

NSW Fire Emergency services were rushed to the scene of an accident involving a 35 Tonne crane in Hepburn Ave, Gladesville around 8am this morning.

Reports were received that the mobile crane rolled back and hit a car in a laneway running off Hepburn Avenue.
 
The crane continued into a two-storey house, damaging the fence and brick structure.
